PHYTOGEOGRAPHY OF THE GENUS DROSANTHEMUM: THE DISTRIBUTION OF SUBGENERA

With about 120 species, Drosanthemwn is one of the bigger genera in the subfamily Ruschioideae, smaller than Ruschia with about 220 species and Conophytum with 100 species plus 75 subspecies and varieties, but of more or less the same size as, e.g., Lampranthus and Delosperma. Only for Conophytum are subdivisions and treatments of species available at a larger scale, (e.g. Hammer 2001), but the three shrubby genera have not received that much attention, each desiring a revision urgently.
