'To be out in the world, to be free!' echoed through my mind as we left the smoggy, bustling concrete jungle that is Johannesburg, and turned westwards to the fresh air and wide open spaces - where at night one can touch the stars, and during the day,if you saw more than two cars in an hour, you wondered, 'Why all the traffic?'. A glorious campfire with lamb chops and boerewors (farmer-sausage) braaiing (grilling over the coals, barbecue-style) and giving off the most appetising smell; and then to settle down in your cosy sleeping-bag with the frosty stars just overhead.
