COMBINED USE OF BANK SLUDGE FORMED IN FERROUS AND NONFERROUS METALLURGICAL OPERATIONS

It is shown that zinc-bearing sludge from ferrous metallurgical operations can be recycled in such a way as to concentrate the zinc to a level that makes it advantageous to extract. The use of wastes from alumina production - red mud - in the production and smelting of sinter or pellets obtained from charge materials that contain zinc minimizes the release of zinc-bearing dust into the atmosphere by increasing the mechanical and hot strength of the agglomerated product.
