UNIT FOR PRODUCING ELECTRICAL STEEL FROM BRIQUETS IN AN IRON-ORE-BEARING MONO-CHARGE

A new universal batch-operated closed arc furnace is proposed for making steel by direct reduction in a single-stage cycle. The furnace represents a synthesis of ore-smelting furnaces and conventional steelmaking furnaces. It makes steel of the required grade by direct reduction from briquets that contain iron ore. The cost of making the steel is 25-30 percent lower than the cost incurred in conventional methods.
