A study of the morphology of Ni oxalate9NiC_2O_4.2H_2O, precipitated under various strippingconditions from D2EHPA-oxalic acid systems was performedusing SEM, XRD, and a particle size distribution analyzer. Themorphology of rectangular shaped primary precipitates, 150 nm X100 nm in sizes was not significantly influenced by processingparameters such as the oxalic acid concentration. Comparison ofthe particle size distributions as measured by the light scatteringprinciples and the SEM observations, clearly indicated that theprimary precipitates readily coagulated to form a wide range ofensemble size distribution. The average size of the ensemble wasreduced to roughly one-tenth with increasing oxalic acidconcentrations H~+ concentrations D2EHPA concentration aswell as by increasing the mixing intensity including ultrasonic irradiation.
