Stimulated emission in thallium iodide vapour pumped with an ArF flashlamp

Thallium iodide has been photodissociated with the radiation of an ArF flashlamp excited by a longitudinal discharge. Stimulated emission from atomic thallium on the transition at 535 nm is demonstrated. The pulse-form has been analysed and the dependence of the emission on the pump power has been measured. Parameters of the flashlamp and the laser output are compared with a computer stimulation of the laser process.
