摘要

Most of the faults occurring on transmission lines are classified into tripping faults due to the lightning strokes. As a countermeasure taken against such lightning faults, Externally-Gapped Line Arresters (EGLAs) for transmission lines were developed based on the technologies of the zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arresters and it is more than twenty years have passed since it was first released. This equipment demonstrated that it is effective in the prevention of lightning hazards. However, such products had been limited to some specific usages, such as the application to an area where lightning hazard takes place frequently or to a single circuit of a important line because of the fact that the installation is complicated and expensive. Compared with conventional our type, dimensions and mass of the newly developed compact type EGLA was remarkably reduced. In addition, the EGLA can be mounted replacing arcing horns. It has easy installation and excellent cost performance. The product can reduce the occurrence of double-circuit line faults and voltage dips.
