The highest possible speed characteristics are achieved in cross-cutting shears by optimizing the relations between the parameters of the cutting mechanism (the diameter of the drums and the number of blades) with allowance for the range of desired product lengths and the dynamic characteristics of the drive. One of the innovations used in the drum-type flying shears made by the Novokramatorsk Machine plant has been incorporated into the cross-cutting shears installed in metal-finishing shop No. 3 at the Severstal' Metallurgical Combine.
