摘要

The TSUKUBA EXPRESS Line is a new railroad with a total distance of 58.3km from Akihabara, which is situated in central Tokyo, to Tsukuba situated in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. This line runs near the Earth Magnetism Observatory. In the case of the DC electrification system, the Earth Magnetism Observatory data may be adversely influenced by the "geomagnetic turbulence field caused by the ground return current" that leaks from the rails. In order to control the substation output voltage as constant and reduce this ground return current, which is caused by a feeding voltage difference between substations, to as small as possible, we have adopted the "PWM power converter equipment" that uses the IGBT devices. The overall facilities have been designed, manufactured, and delivered in a configuration that can also cope with rapid load fluctuations.
