The Methane to Benzene (MTB) reaction is now getting industrial attention as a non-petroleum benzene production process. Drawing on our long-term engineering resources on zeolite-type environmental catalysts, Meidensha Corporation is engaged in the development of an MTB catalyst that plays an essential role in the MTB process. In most cases in MTB reactions, deposited carbon on the surface of a catalyst over time can be a direct cause of catalyst deactivation. The MTB catalyst developed by the Company can obtain a maximum of 12% of benzene formation in its activity. in addition, a life test under the process to remove the carbonaceous deposit on the catalyst surface was carried out by the addition of hydrogen to the catalyst under test. As a result, we verified that deposited carbon can be suppressed effectively and continuous operation for over 1000 hours can be achieved while a high benzene formation of more than 10% is maintained.
