Effect of chosen feed additives on the histology of mucosa in fatteners' intestines

32 crossbred pigs were used in this study and were divided into two equal groups, the first group served as control (feeds treated with antibiotics) while the second group was fed with prebiotics (BIO-MOS, Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 1026 at 0.1%). After the feeding experiment eight animals from each group were examined immunohistochemically. Results showed that antibodies bax, bcl-x, and bcl-2 were suitable in examining apoptosis. It was also observed that the mucosa of the small intestines (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) of the prebiotic treated piglets were in good shape as compared with the control group.
