Ascosphaera apis is the agent that causes chalkbrood (CB) disease in honeybees and is mostly isolated from mummified honeybee larvae (Apis mellifera L.). The aim of the study was to characterize the protein patterns of 24 strains of Ascosphaera apis isolated from Polish apiaries using the sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis method (SDS-PAGE). All strains of A. apis were cultivated for 8 days on an SDA-YE base with 0.1% chloramphenicol added and were maintained at 25degreesC. Mycelium was taken from every single culture, frozen at -20degreesC and kept for protein extraction. Four different methods of protein extraction and their usefulness for SDS-PAGE were compared.
