The Maczek external skeletal fixator is one of the new generation stabilizers. The aim of research was to establish the influence of this fixator on bone callus quality. The study was performed on 30 sheep divided into three groups. The osteotomy procedure was performed on all the animals, after which the Maczek external skeletal fixator in the super mini version was applied. Osteosynthesis was performed in 3 animal groups: I) with compression, II) without fragments of fractured bone compression, as well as HI) dynamic-axial stabilization. After a 3-month-long observation period the bone callus specimens were sampled for histopathological examination. Proper ossification was confirmed in animal groups II and III). However, underdeveloped bone trabeculas and Haversian laminas as well as numerous osteogenic cells were observed in a part of group I. The clinical trial confirmed that the Maczek external skeletal fixator permitted a bone callus structure similar to that of proper bone to be obtained.
