The investigations of uterine horn walls were performed, on 60-day-old gilts divided into 5 groups (n=3), depending on the contamination level of natural and/or crystal zearalenone and/or no addition of Fix-A-Tox, the absorber of mycotoxins or Mycofix Plus causing ZEN chemical degradation, The obtained measurements demonstrated a correlation between the increase of. uterine weight and ZEN contamination level in fodder; however, a connection with uterine horn length was lacking. A significant enlargement was observed in cross-sections of uterine horns (2-3 mm in the control group K-1 and 6-7 mm in the experimental group D, after ZEN addition of 83.2 mug/kg and.585.73 mug/kg,fodder, respectively). The most noticeable changes involved the mucosal epithelium (from a simple cuboidal epithelium to a very thick stratified epithelium) and glandular epithelium with the ability to produce "uterine milk" in group D,. These studies revealed that a dose of 585.73 mug ZEN/kg fodder could influence a premature development of the uterus in 60-day-old gilts, including mucus production in the glandular and mucous epithelium of uterine horn walls. However, higher ZEN doses, as, in groups D-2 - 1314.56 mug/kg and D-3 - 948.48 mug/kg, caused the destruction, shrinking and atrophy of uterine epithelial cells leading to a of young gilts' reproductive abilities independently of the addition of Fix-A-Tox And Mycofix Plus.
