Epizootic analysis of Aujeszky's disease in Wielkopolska voivodeship.

The study was conducted to determine the epidemiology of Aujeszky's disease (AD) between 2001 and 2005 in Wielkopolska voivodeship, the highest pig producing region in Poland. A total of 3584 pig sera from 480 pig farms and 15 910 pig sera from 331 pig farms were independently analysed in the Regional Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (RVDL), Poznan and Department of Swine Diseases of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Pulawy, respectively. Results revealed that the seroprevalence rate of 9.20% in Poznan was higher when compared with 1.57% in Pulawy. Seropositive pigs of 15.60 and 11.67% was observed in the examined farms of Poznan and Pulawy. It is concluded that the epidemiological situation of AD between 2001 and 2005 in Wielkopolska voivodeship is stable and the pig populations are not heavily infected with AD..
