Cytokines as the main inductors of acute phase proteins [Review] [Polish]

Cells of the immune system produce and secrete cytokines that regulate the immune responses in both the normal and pathological status of an organism. Cytokines act on a variety of cellular targets and they play the role of the main synthesis inductor of acute phase proteins (APC). Cytokine receptors are integral membrane proteins with both extracellular and intracellular domains. Liver cells increase synthesis and secretion of APC under the influence of three major cytokines, namely IL-1, IL-6 and TNFalpha. APC synthesis is regulated in many different ways by the synergistic action of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
