Microdyn-Nadir has developed a submerged membrane module for MBR applications that is expected to lower capital expenses and operating costs such as manpower,energy use and chemical demand.The Bio-Cel incorporates a back-flushable flat sheet membrane fabricated via lamination of a PES membrane layer and polyester drainage layer.The goal of developing Bio-Cel was to design a module that offers high membrane surface area,prevents braiding and sludging,and has an efficient crossflow aeration system.The challenge was ensuring sufficient adhesion strength between the membrane and drainage layers while maintaining high water permeability.
