Ceramic membranes are of particular interest in many industrial processes because of their ability to function under extreme conditions while maintaining their chemical and thermal stability. Major structural deficiencies present under conventional fabrication approaches include pinholes and cracks, and the dramatic losses of flux when pore sizes are reduced to enhance selectivity.
