Porous material cleans contaminated water and could purify hydrogen

Scientists in the USA say they have developed a new way of cleansing water using a type of porous material. As this brief feature shows, they have created and characterised a porous, semiconducting aerogel which, they have discovered, is able to remove heavy metal from contaminated water. The researchers believe that it also could be used to remove impurities from hydrogen gas.
