The Dutch government aims to introduce quality competition in postgraduate medical training. Hospitals' performances in this area should therefore become more transparent. An important aspect of the quality of medical training is the clinical learning environment. The Postgraduate Health Educational Environment Measure (PHEEM) provides a questionnaire to measure this (Roff et al. 2005). The PHEEM contains 40 items to be scored on a Likert-scale of 0 (very negative) to 4 (very positive). The Dutch version is found to be reliable as a 1-dimensional questionnaire for measuring hospitals' learning environment (Boor et al. 2007).
