Measles: going not gone

In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) set a goal to reduce deaths owing to measles by 50 % by the end of 2005 compared with 1999 estimates.1 Between 1999 and 2005, deaths due to measles decreased by 60%. Africa achieved the largest total reduction contributing 72% of the global reduction in measles mortality.1 The revised measles mortality gaol for 2006-2015 is to reduce measles deaths by 90% by 2010, compared with 2000 levels.
