摘要

This special issue is devoted to the relevance of reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species, and redox signaling in Gastroenterology. The pathophysiology of major diseases with enormous importance in public health systems, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), alcoholic liver disease, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and colon cancer rely on oxidative stress and failure of protective adaptive redox mechanisms that may determine disease progression and outcome. The authors of this special issue have made great effort to understand these mechanisms to better explain the clinical scenario as well as present and potential therapeutic approaches. This special issue comprises 10 reviews and is divided into three parts, the first one related to liver diseases, the second one about pancreatic diseases, and the last one on inflammatory bowel disease.
