This note briefly comments on the recent article by Perez Azorin et al. Perez Azorin developed and tested a method using three color (red, green, and blue) channels for extracting dose from a therapeutic radiation exposed and scanned EBT3 film. Their method resembles similar approaches developed earlier by Mayer2 and Micke3 that also minimized the difference in computed doses from each of the three color channels and accounted for the local gray level sensitivity. Perez Azorin1 found an improved performance relative to similar methods developed by Micke3 and Mayer.2 This note questions whether extra temporal noise reduction in the blue channel for the Perez Azorin study might have improved the relative performance of the Mayer and Micke3 algorithms relative to the Perez Azorin approach.
