Comments on 'A systematic review of the reliability of objective structured clinical examination scores'

Editor - We read with interest the recent article by Brannick et al. entitled 'A systematic review of the reliability of objective structured clinical examination scores'. The article emphasises important points about assumptions of quality relating to objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and the need for OSCEs to have adequate construct validity as part of a wider assessment framework. In keeping with work previously described, the authors1 highlight considerable variation in whole examination reliability (as measured by Cron-bach's alpha), concluding that particular design features of the OSCE may be influential in this respect.
