What problems were addressed? Rater judgements are vulnerable to over-rating, imprecise interpretation, poor conformity and usually to the incapacity to detect serious discrepancy. The possible causes of these problems relate to the scales, forms and items used for rating, individual rater variance and subjects of rating. These problems compromise the ability of raters to maintain the quality and authenticity of ratings. In an effort to prevent the deterioration of these standards, a simple grading system was implemented.
