UK's Reclcar coke ovens to close as deal hopes die

THE COKE OVENS and blast furnace at the Redcar steel mill in the United Kingdom (UK), operated by Sahaviriya Steel Industries UK (SSI UK), are set to close after a last-minute buyer for the struggling plant failed to materialise. "There is no realistic prospect of a buyer being found and the priority now is to close the ovens down safely," said appointed liquidator the Official Receiver. "SSI was placed into liquidation with substantial debts and had no funds available to purchase the coal needed to keep the coking ovens operational."
