Lessons learned and future directions: The national response for preventing healthcare-associated infections

In this special issue, we have described results from the IMPAQ-RAND team's formal longitudinal evaluation of HHS's National Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare-associated Infections1 and have discussed efforts to address healthcare—associated infections (HAIs) at the state, regional, and local levels. In this final article, we take a step back to consider briefly the overall impact of the Action Plan and to describe some possible future directions for addressing HAIs.
