Rising German wind output squeezes coal

GERMAN WIND generation reached a record 59 TWh in January-September, equivalent to more than 20 mt of steam coal burn. This compares with 57.4 TWh of wind generation in the same period of 2014, with the increase a result of new offshore wind units starting up, and above-average winds. Offshore wind generation rose to 4.6 TWh in January-September, from 1.4 TWh in the same period of 2014, according to German energy and water federation BDEW.
