Interpipe Steel's formal commissioning of the new 160-tonne electric arc furnace (EAF) complex at Dneprostal took place on October 5 in the presence of Ukrainian president ViktorYanukovych, accordingto the information from the parent group. The new plant will have a capacity to produce 1.32 million tpy of crude steel, cast into round billets in 250-A-80mm diameters, using two four-strand casters. Once it achieves full capacity in 2014, the new meltshop and caster will providefor 90% of Interpipe's feedstock requirements, the group said. Semi-finished products from Interpipe Steel will be used at Interpipe's NTRP works and at Interpipe Niko Tube to produce seamless pipe and to forge rail wheels.
