As we have noted in our Base Metals Weekly Review, the latest data from ILZSG indicates that Western World consumption of lead fell year-on-year by over 5 percent to 1.74m tonnes in the period from January to April. The decline was led by the US, where consumption fell year-on-year by 12.4 percent to 517,000 tonnes. MBR forecasts that in 2002 demand for lead will increase year-on-year by just 1.3 percent to 5.45m tonnes, before seeing a more notable return to growth in 2003.
