Absence due to sickness could be costing the waste and recycling industry 70m pounds ayear, according to a survey published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It found that the average number of working days lost to sickness in the sector stands at 10.3 days per worker per year (4%). The HSE used the Confederation of British Industry's estimates which state that one worker being absent for one day will usually cost an organisation 100 pounds.
