Zinc prices lurched higher on Friday on the back of reports that ten Chinese zinc smelterswere considering a collective 500,000-tonne production cut next year. At one stageprices were up 6% at $1,620.50/tonne, compared with Thursday’s close of $1,528/tonne.Last month, zinc reacted very positively to Glencore’s production cut news too, but therally faded. The same seems to be happening this time, and we are not surprised as theChinese commitment is less definite and is not set to start until next year.
