UK plc on board to tackle waste

The steering group to deliver objectives under the new Waste Implementation Programme (WIP) has been announced this week. WIP has been set up in response to recommendations by the Strategy Unit report Waste Not, Want Not, specifically to move the treatment of waste up the waste hierarchy to make its management more sustainable. Though there are a number of individuals from the waste and recycling industry, it is interesting to note those organisations also represented on this committee. Chairing the group is the chairman of mmO_2, while other members include representatives from the National Consumer Council, Tesco and Hedra, which offers management and technical consultancy to organisations providing public services.
