Plastics demand in the UK is growing

It is in the interest of the plastics manufacturing industry to conserve expensive raw materials by recycling. The British Plastic Federation estimates that around 50,000 tonnes of polyethylene film - about 10 percent of the material produced - is recovered each year and recycled into builders' sheeting and refuse bags, while at least 25,000 tonnes of polypropylene, 7 percent of that produced in the UK, is recycled for drainage pipes and other uses.But the UK plastics recycling industry remains thwarted in its efforts by the low value of packaging recovery notes (PRNs).
