Rapid aerobic composting

A new in-vessel aerobic corn-posting system that can convert organic waste into fertiliser or feed within 48 hours has been launched in the UK. Called Fast Fermentation, the patented treatment process is believed to be one of the fastest in the world. Unlike most in-vessel systems, Fast Fermentation uses an accelerator culture containing 24 different bacteria. It also uses heating to hasten the process. Plants are initially heated by an exterior jacket and through a rotor shaft holding stirring tines. They typically have a "dual batch" construction, so that an effective 24-hour cycle can be maintained.
