Calls for tougher recycling and waste management policies

The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) has called for the European Commission to get tough on recycling and waste management and to stop watering down its policies to please waste producers.The EEB, a federation of 134 non-governmental environmental organisations from 25 countries, made the strongly-worded call in a strategy paper written in response to the EU's draft sixth Environmental Action Programme."We call upon the Commission to resume its leadership in driving the waste agenda upstream. This may occasionally entail conflicts with some parts of industry," the strategy paper said. "While we appreciate the search for consensus, we would also like to see a courageous and demanding Commission."
