The Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, which aims to increase the collection, recovery and recycling of electro-scrap, should have come into effect in the UK on August 13 this year. But the Government has now pushed back the date to June 2006. From that date, producers will be responsible for recycling their e-scrap and retailers will be required to offer consumers free take-back of WEEE from that date.
