Conference Report - Dense Granular Flows

The IMA Dense Granular Flows conference was held from the5-9 January 2009 at the Isaac Newton Institute Cambridge.In the last ten years there has been an upsurge in activity inthe field of granular mechanics, which is broadly based: mathe-maticians, physicists, civil engineers, geophysicists, chemicalengineers and pharmacists are all stakeholders in the subject.And, judging by the discussions that took place at this confer-ence, representatives from the various disciplines appear to listento one another and move the subject forward together.
