A combined-cycle power plant in Asia utilizes seawater as auxiliary cooling water (ACW). The carbon steel ACW pipe was lined with coal tar epoxy. After six months in operation, the ACW pipe started leaking due to internal corrosion. A retrofit impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system was installed. This article describes the retrofit process, including failure analysis, ICCP design, and the ICCP system commissioning.
