This article presents the results of a study to evaluate the corrosion control performance of polyethylene (PE) encasement for ductile iron (DI) pipe. The study consisted of a) an e-mail poll of ~ 1,100 utility contacts to determine their use and satisfaction with PE encasement, b) distribution of a questionnaire on PE encasement performance to 15 utilities, and c) field visits to four of the utilities including excavation/ inspection of their PE-encased DI pipe at two locations per utility.
