Cathodic protection of ice shields on the northumberland strait confederation bridge

Issues considered during the design of an impressed current-type cathodic protection (ICCP) systemon the submerged external surfaces of steel ice shields on bridge piers are presented. CP systemdesign solutions associated with providing protection to the underwater CP components against icedamage are discussed. Information is given on arrangements used on various pier configurations,construction methods, and system effectiveness.
