Despite recent challenges, the Irish meat industry is upbeat about its prospects for the future, as Alyson Magee reports Globally recognised for its quality and natural, grass-based production, Irish beef is going even greener, with Bord Bia's OriginGreen programme adding a further dimension to its offer.A voluntary development programme, the aim of Origin Green is to demonstrate Irish food and drink manufacturers' commitment to operating sustainably in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, energy conservation, water management, biodiversity and community engagement. The programme has gained international kudos, cited as an exemplar of how a national programme can be implemented at a recent UN Global Climate Summit.
