Newstan semi-soft gets 180 dollars/t--and possible reprieve

Centennial Coal has achieved recent sales of its Newstan semi-soft product at 180 dollars/t, and the sometimes troublesome mine may now get a reprieve from planned closure. The company revealed the Newstan sales in its March quarter report, which also disclosed it had made recent sales 'above 130 dollars/t' for its Clarence thermal coal. The report showed Centennial's equity share of total coal sales in the quarter dipped 18 percent year-on-year to 3.3mt, mostly reflecting the recent sale of the Tahmoor mine to Xstrata. Total sales for the nine months to March were down 12 percent to 11.3mt on the same basis.
