Export offers for Turkish billet are currently standing at 420-430 dollars/tonne fob with lead time slipping to less than two months for the majority of steel grades. The lower export price for Turkish material showcases the weakness of major export markets for Turkish producers. In August, Turkish steelmakers have had to offer discounted prices to customers in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions with deals reportedly struck as low as 400-410 dollars/tonne fob on the back of seasonally slow end-use demand, unabated steel production in Turkey and stiff competition with low-cost producers in the CIS and Central and Eastern Europe.
