摘要

After 125 years of successful " exporting, New Zealand is naturally looking at ways to ensure the industry is sustainable and will continue to provide the world with meat. The country is taking this task seriously and, in consultation with the industry, is looking at ways to reduce the environmental impact of farming, eliminate the diseases that ravage the industry and improve efficiency. Methane and nitrous oxide are a serious side-effect of sheep and cattle farming. In an effort to reduce them, industry bodies such as Meat &Wool New Zealand and Dairy InSight, as well as commercial companies and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAP) have set up the Pastoral Greenhouse Gas Research Consortium (PGgRc).
