Improved cathodic protection testing techniques for aboveground storage tank bottoms

This article discusses cathodic protection (CP) testing procedures for aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). Experience has shown that improper testing procedures lead to inaccurate testing results and unnecessary expenditures. Dry or high-resistivity tank cushions, along with CP configuration and product inventory levels, create unique testing circumstances that must be understood. The problems and solutions for testing external AST bottoms are discussed.
