Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) accounts for at least 20% of all corrosion costs. Iranian industries lose an amount equivalent to roughly six times the government's investment in industry because of MIC. Among microorganisms that cause MIC directly or indirectly, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) are of particular interest. Different detection methods for studying SRB have been proposed. They are based mainly on high sensitivity or short response time principles. Unfortunately, no method providing both principles has been presented as of yet. In this study, after reviewing existing methods, an improved culture media for detecting SRB was evaluated.
