Small Grant Reports CPM 2011 and StringMasters 2011

Iwould like to thank the IMA for awarding a Small Grant which was utilised for attending the twin conferences CPM 2011 and String Masters 2011.The 22nd Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching, CPM 2011, was held at Hotel La Torre, Palermo, Italy, from 27-29 June. There were 70 submissions from 20 countries, of which the committee accepted 36 papers. The conference attracted around 90 international participants, with talks scheduled for 20 minute presentations organised into sessions on: Compressed Text,Combinatorics on Words, Computational Biology, Classic String Matching, and Trees and Graphs. Hence important applications of Computer Science, in particular, compression and bioinformatics were manifest at the symposium, along with more theoretical research including computations for string and graph structures.
