professor Peter Theodore Landsberg sadly passed away in February this year. He was a founder member of the Institute and served on the Council between 1968 and 1969. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1971; served on the Institute of Physics Council, and was Vice Chairman of the UK Section of the International Solar Energy Society between 1978 and 1982. He was an Emeritus Professor at the University of Southampton; Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics between 1972 1987 and Dean of the Faculty between 1980 and 1982. Peter was well known for his research into semi-conductor theory. He wrote many papers, including some on Electron Interactions, Bose Condensation, Chemisorption, The Ergodic Theorem, The Auger Effect, Caratheodory's Thermodynamics, Quantum Mechanics and Life, Relativistic Temperature Transformation, Cosmology, Order and Solar Electricity.He also wrote several textbooks and a popular physics book, Seeking Ultimates: An Intuitive Guide to Physics, published by the Institute of Physics (2000).
