Mathematical Challenges of Big Data Conference

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications held its first conference on the Challenges of Big Data in London on 16-17 December 2014. This event highlighted new developments in mathematical methods and illustrated current applications that underscore the importance of this field as one of the eight great science and technology challenges recently identified by the government. It was attended by 67 delegates from industry and universities, from Europe and overseas. Invited lectures provided expert tutorials, with broader discussion taking place during a panel session chaired by Andrew Miller MP, chairman of the Parliamentary Science and Technology Select Committee.
